The next-generation MDX is probably the most anticipated model in the brand’s lineup for the next year. The popular mid-size crossover has been around since the start of this millennium and we have seen three generations of it so far. If we consider that the model’s production cycle usually lasts around seven years, the next-gen Acura MDX should come completely redesigned. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation, but there are so many sources that suggest such a scenario. Many interesting things can be read at acurazine.com, as well as on other websites. Moreover, the test mule of a new Acura model has been spotted on the road and most experts are pretty sure that this is the next-generation MDX.
We count on all kinds of novelties and various improvements. Simply, the new Acura MDX 2021 redesign needs to bring a lot of changes if the company wants to be competitive in this segment. This includes more interior space, more luxury, more tech goodies, improved performances etc.
Next-Gen Acura MDX Will Be Bigger
Among many next-gen Acura MDX changes we expect to see, the change in size is among the most important ones. Simply, the current model isn’t particularly spacious for a mid-size crossover. With 111.00 inches in wheelbase, you can’t expect some generous amounts of legroom, particularly in the third row. The current model isn’t particularly great in the second row either. In numbers, the current model offers around 41.5 inches, which is a great number. On the other side, 38.5 inches of legroom in the second row is below-average for the class, while 28.1 inches in the third row is subpar by any standards.
These ratings clearly indicate that the new model should gain a couple of inches in wheelbase. We can’t talk about the exact number at the moment. Still, we presume it will go somewhere between 114 and 115 inches.
Next-Gen Acura MDX Styling
Of course, the upcoming redesign will bring new styling as well. The recent update was pretty mild, which means that the company prepares something interesting for the overhaul. At this point, it is almost clear that the test mule that rides on the roads of Ohio is actually the new MDX. This mule still wears a complete camouflage, but it looks pretty obvious that the new model will feature a longer hood and a little bit bolder overall shape.
Moreover, you probably know the story about the RDX software suite, where we saw a complete graphics of new MDX and TLX models. Although the company’s spokesman stated that these renderings are conceptual. However, it looks obvious that the production model won’t look too much different compared to the crossover that can be seen on the rendering photo. From what we can see on this photo, it looks that the new 2021 Acura MDX will feature a notably sharper look compared to the outgoing model, it the manner of the recently redesigned RDX.
The next-gen Acura MDX interior is still a complete mystery, which is no wonder. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t presume some of the new model’s characteristics. For example, we’ve already mentioned that the new model is expected to be notably bigger, which means more space in the second and third row. Of course, that won’t be the only novelty of this redesign. Given the latest trends in the segment, we won’t be surprised if we see things like the digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen etc. Also, we count on a notable improvement in terms of the overall quality. This especially refers to things like materials and dashboard styling.
Big novelties are expected under the hood as well. One of the most interesting novelties should be a new hi-performance version. Of course, we expect it will come as the next-gen Acura MDX Type S. Most rumors suggest an exclusive turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which significant power boost compared to the current V6. Still, the current V6 will probably remain in the offer, reserved for entry-level models. It currently delivers around 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque and comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
A new hybrid version is expected as well. The current model comes with a system that combines a V6 engine with three electric motors, for a total output of 321 horsepower. We still don’t know how the new version would like, but we may presume it would feature more power and better fuel economy.
When Will 2021 Acura MDX Be Released?
When it comes to the 2021 Acura MDX release date, most sources suggest the new generation will hit the market this fall. When it comes to the price, we might see some slight increase. The current model starts around 44.500 dollars. Key competitors are models like Lexus RX, Infiniti QX60 etc.
