Tesla’s compact crossover arrived recently so we presume that the 2022 Tesla Model Y won’t feature bigger changes. Still, keep in mind that these things are always a little tricky with Tesla, considering that this company doesn’t practice yearly updates. Instead, it brings novelties pretty much constantly. Still, if we consider that we are talking about a pretty fresh vehicle, we have no doubt that most of the things are about to remain the same.
This means you may count on a crossover that has a lot of good things to offer. Of course, the range and performances are some of the things that come to mind first, but this crossover also offers a lot of interior space, while the handling is quite engaging. Of course, the Model Y isn’t without flaws. It lags behind the competition in terms of interior quality, while more conservative drivers definitely don’t like the lack of physical controls on the dashboard.
2022 Tesla Model Y Specs
As we are talking about the world’s leading company in terms of electrification, it’s no wonder that things like power and range are some of the first that comes to our minds. At this point, Tesla offers two variants of the drivetrain. There is the Long Range version that features a couple of electric motors, with a total output of 384 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in just 4.6 seconds.
Of course, there is the Performance version in the offer as well. This version features a max output of 456 horsepower and 497 pound-feet of torque. As a result, the acceleration is notably quicker and goes way under four seconds.
When it comes to range, the Long Range version is obviously a better choice. It can make around 326 miles on a single charge. The Performance model is also pretty impressive, as it features a max range of 303 miles. Both ratings are the best in the class, by a pretty big margin.
Later this year, we expect to see the Stanard Range model, which will be the most affordable version of the crossover. It will feature an electric motor on the rear axle only, while the max range will probably go around 240 miles. Details about the max power and performances are still to come.
2022 Tesla Model Y Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 Tesla Model Y definitely won’t change. You may count on the same layout, which is heavily based on the Model 3. Moreover, the two models use the same platform and even feature pretty much the same wheelbase. Of course, this particular model is higher and features higher ground clearance, so it’s not as fun to drive as the hatchback sibling. Still, you can get a Performance Upgrade Package, which lowers suspension, brings performance tires and several more upgrades.
In terms of the styling, you can also notice a lot of similarities with the aforementioned hatchback. The whole silhouette looks pretty similar, with the exception of higher ground clearance, of course.
On the inside, the first thing you’ll notice is an extremely simplistic dashboard design. Things are pretty much the same as in the Model 3, which means that there is just one huge touchscreen, which controls pretty much everything about the car. You won’t find any physical button on this dashboard. This may seem like a drawback in the eyes of more conservative drivers, but the fact is that this simplistic and futuristic design perfectly matches the model’s all-electric nature.
When it comes to the interior space, this model measures around 114 inches in wheelbase, so it’s no wonder that the first and second rows offer way over 40 inches in legroom. On the other side, the optional third row feels quite cramped and it can accommodate kids only. Keep in mind that things aren’t much better in the bigger Model X either. The total cargo capacity goes around 68 cubic feet, which is a good number for the class.
As we already mentioned, Tesla brings constant updates, so it’s hard to talk about the exact list of standard and available features. Still, we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes standard with things like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, 15-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a 14-speaker stereo, HD Radio, and wireless device charging. Additionally, you can get more USB ports.
When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera system, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.
2022 Tesla Model Y Release Date and Price
