Land Rover’s compact SUV has been around for a while but it looks like the British manufacturer won’t rush with updates. From what we know so far, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport will come without bigger changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, which has so many great things to offer. Of course, there’s always a chance to see smaller updates, some tweaks among equipment groups and minor additions to the list of standard equipment.
On the other hand, the overall layout will certainly remain the same, which means that you may count on a layout that has a lot of great things to offer. Like most other models from this manufacturer, this one also offers pretty strong off-road performances. Furthermore, we really like the infotainment system, which is super easy to use. Finally, the cabin is pretty spacious for a compact class.
Considering that bigger changes probably won’t happen, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport release date should be scheduled for the end of 2021.
2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport Design
Design-wise, we don’t expect to see any bigger change for the next year. This model sticks with the brand’s recognizable design language and it hasn’t been updated for a pretty long time. It’s been around for years and still looks the same. However, that doesn’t mean it looks bad, but quite the opposite. It still looks fresh and competitive.
Still, the styling has never been the biggest deal about Land Rover models. What we like about them is a fantastic balance between comfort and off-road capability. This model is no exception and even though it’s officially a crossover, it comes with loads of off-road hardware. All models come with all-wheel drive, hill descent control, All Terrain Progress Control and selectable drive modes (Rock Crawl, General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, and Sand drive modes).
The 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport is strong in many fields but the cabin is some kind of a mixed bag. When it comes to the overall quality, things are pretty good. The materials are nice, while the build quality is very good. Still, we have to say that German rivals look even more upscale from the inside.
When it comes to comfort, one of the complaints goes to the front seats, which are spacious but could have been more cushioned. The second row also offers enough space to accommodate adult passengers with ease.
Standard models come with two rows of seats, while the third row is optional. Given the model’s compact size, it’s obvious that this row isn’t particularly spacious.
When it comes to cargo capacity, models with two rows offer around 26.6 cubic feet behind the second-row seats and 63.3 cubic feet in total, which is pretty good for the class. Adding the third row of seats would leave you just 5.5 cubic feet behind it.
While there is a chance to see a couple of new things on the list of standard features, we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, push-button start, a 10-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports. Additionally, you can get options like a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, wireless device charging, navigation, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
The same thing is with safety. The current model already comes with a pretty long list, which includes a rearview camera, a surround-view parking camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, driver drowsiness monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors. There are also options like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and automatic high-beam headlights.
2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport Engine
It’s hard to imagine a proper 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport review without engine specification. Unfortunately, things won’t change for the next year, so you may count on just one engine option in the offer. We are talking about a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 246 horsepower. The engine comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and the overall driving experience is so-so, mostly because of the pretty big turbo lag.
When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is really low for the class.
2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year. Also, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport price should remain pretty similar to the current model, which starts at around 42.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors could be models like BMW X3, Audi Q5, VW Tiguan etc.
