After the recent redesign, Kia’s mid-size crossover is highly competitive once again. However, the Korean manufacturer won’t stop on that. The second production year will bring two big novelties, and both will be in terms of electrification. We are about to see both hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions in the offer. Other than that, we don’t expect to see any bigger modifications. In terms of the overall design, the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid shouldn’t be much different compared to standard gasoline-powered versions.
All in all, you may count on familiar design characteristics. This crossover offers a spacious cabin, comfortable ride, upscale interior and a long list of standard and available features. Standard gasoline models already offer good fuel economy, so the new hybrid variants will impress even more in this aspect. Finally, the Sorento has always been famous for high reliability ratings, so we don’t expect the new model to be any different.
2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid Powertrain
Without any doubt, the biggest novelty for the second production year will be the introduction of two hybrid versions. The classic 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid will be based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, which will get help from a 60-hp electric motor. The combined output will go around 225 horsepower, which should provide decent overall performance. When it comes to fuel economy, the company claims 37 mph combined.
On the other side, the plug-in hybrid version will be more powerful. It will use the same turbo-four engine as the basis, but it will also come with a more powerful 90-hp electric motor. The total output goes around 265 horsepower, which promises respectable performances. Also, this version features a 12.4-kWh battery pack, which should also ensure an all-electric range of around 30 miles. The company claims a fuel economy of around 33 mpg combined.
2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid Design
Other than the powertrain, the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid shouldn’t be much different than standard gasoline models. Therefore, you may count on the same overall design, which shares a lot of things with the new Santa Fe. The two models ride on the same platform and offer similar ride quality. We like the smooth ride and the overall comfort. This is rather a cruiser than an engaging SUV and those who are looking for something more fun to drive should look in other places.
Visually, the recent redesign has brought significant changes. The new model looks much different compared to its predecessor and we definitely like it. The whole vehicle looks sharper while both ends are characterized by a very mature and upscale look. Of course, the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid will probably come with a couple of exclusive details, such as different wheels, exclusive color options and similar things.
Once again, we don’t expect to see bigger changes compared to standard gasoline models. Therefore, you may count on an upscale cabin, which has so many good things to offer. First of all, the dashboard looks very attractive, while the materials all over the cabin are pretty amazing. Add to this a long list of tech goodies and you get a cabin that looks better compared to most rivals in the class.
Besides good build quality, we also like the front seats, which are spacious and supportive. The second row also accommodates adults comfortably. On the other side, the third row is tight, but that’s something you would expect from one of the smallest models in the class anyway. The same thing goes for the cargo area. The standard model is good for about 12.6 cubic feet behind the third row, 45 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 75.5 cubes of the total cargo volume. We presume that the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid could feature slightly lower numbers because of batteries.
The list of standard and available equipment shouldn’t be drastically different compared to gasoline models. Therefore, base versions should come with things like an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, HD Radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. More expensive versions should offer upgrades like dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touch screen (loses wireless smartphone integration), navigation, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging etc.
When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with a rearview camera, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and driver drowsiness monitoring.
2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid Release Date and Price
Despite the big novelties, we don’t expect that the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid could arrive much earlier than usual. Most likely, it will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, we expect that the classic hybrid will go around 35.000 dollars.
