Chevy’s full-size SUV has just been redesigned and we have no doubt that the second production year will bring no significant updates. This refers to all versions, including the off-road-oriented Z71 model. This trim has always been famous for various off-road upgrades and there is no doubt that the 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 will continue in the same way. You may count on the same design characteristics and some exclusive features.
This means that you may count on a Tahoe that offers a little bit better off-road performance, along with Tahoe’s typical characteristics. This is a capable and spacious SUV, which comes with three engine options on offer, as well as a long list of standard and available equipment. We like its spacious cabin and very generous cargo area, which is one of the biggest in the class.
As there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 will be reserved for the end of the year.
2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Design
Design-wise, this particular version heavily relies on the standard Tahoe. Most of the mechanics are the same, including all the novelties that were introduced with the last year’s redesign. This means a new T1 platform, which has brought improvements regarding efficiency, driving characteristics etc.
Still, the main thing about the 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 will be its upgrades. You may count on a decent amount of off-road hardware, which includes standard four-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case, upgraded suspension, hill descent control, skid plates etc.
This model also comes with a couple of exclusive styling details. Among them, you can find different bumpers, which don’t just make this SUV look more aggressive, but also provide better approach and departure angles. Other than bumpers, you may count on a new front fascia, unique wheels and similar things.
On the inside, things aren’t much different compared to other versions of Tahoe. That’s not a bad thing at all. Simply, the new generation looks very nice from the inside. The dashboard is modern and attractive, while the materials are mostly nice. The overall build quality is pretty good too.
Still, Tahoe’s strongest point is interior space. You may count on three rows of seats and capacity for 8 passengers. Even the third row has enough legroom to accommodate adult passengers with ease.
The cargo area is as impressive. You may count on about 25.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 72.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and a total of 122.9 cubic feet in total. Those are impressive numbers, even for the class of full-size SUVs.
Other than the off-road upgrades, the Z71 is pretty much a mid-level trim. The list of standard features is pretty much the same as in the LT trim. This means that you may count on goodies like a 10.2-inch touch screen, smartphone connectivity via wireless Apple CarPlay or wireless Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, six USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone climate control, leather-appointed front seats with heating and 10-way power-adjustments, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a hands-free power liftgate etc.
There are also safety features like forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, rear parking sensors, a rear seat reminder, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and GM’s Teen Driver.
Furthermore, there are three optional packages on offer – Driver Alert, Luxury and Rear Media and Nav.
The Driver Alert package includes goodies like front parking sensors, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane change alert, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The Luxury package adds second-row heated outboard seats, power-folding second-and third-row seats, a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel, a surround-view parking camera system, and rear automatic braking. Finally, the Rear Media and Nav package adds navigation and a dual-screen entertainment system for the rear seats.
2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Engine
When it comes to 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 engines, expect no surprises. You may count on three familiar engine options, starting from a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. If you are up for something more powerful, there is a 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is the diesel version, which puts out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
All three engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. As we already mentioned, 4WD is standard, as well as a two-speed transfer case.
