At the time when everyone is talking about the new generation of the flagship Range Rover, the British manufacturer is also working on novelties for the Discovery. The current generation of this model has been around since 2017, so the next year seems like a perfect time for updates, especially if we consider that this model is competing in one of the toughest segments when it comes to luxury cars. Therefore, we are about to see a lot of interesting novelties for the 2021 Land Rover Discovery.
Although the new version won’t come before the second half of the year, many things about the 2021 Land Rover Discovery facelift are already known. First of all, we know for sure that there are new engine options to come. Also, this update will bring interesting styling novelties, while the expanded list of standard equipment is always welcome. Still, the overall design will remain largely the same, so you may count on familiar proportions and interior space.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Interior Space
Despite all the novelties that are about to come with the new Land Rover Discovery 2021, the overall design will remain pretty much the same. This includes dimensions as well, so you may count on the same interior space as in the current model. The interesting thing about this SUV is that it is the only model in the company’s lineup that comes with three rows of seats. The third row is optional, while base models come with five seats. Of course, we will stick to the three-row model and its dimensions. Of course, the amount of legroom in the first and second row is the same as in two-row models. The first row is good for bout 39 inches, while the second row measures 37.6 inches. These are subpar numbers for the class, especially if we compare this model with closest rivals, such as Audi Q7, BMW X5 etc.
On the other side, this model offers more space in the third row. You can count on more than 33 inches, which is more space compared to the aforementioned rivals. Also, we like the fact that this crossover is pretty generous when it comes to the overall cargo space, which goes up to over 85 cubic feet.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Changes
When it comes to the Land Rover Discovery facelift 2021, the most anticipated things aren’t those in terms of the styling, as you would probably expect, but rather novelties under the hood. According to the latest reports, the company plans to add two hybrid options to the offer. One of them will be a mild hybrid setup, while the other should be a PHEV version. That should be the same P400 system that powers Range Rover, which is good for full 400 horsepower. We are still waiting to get confirmation from the officials.
Of course, some changes are expected in terms of styling as well. Still, we don’t count on radical changes, as this brand always sticks closely to its famous styling philosophy and all models look quite similar. So, a couple of tweaks to the front end is all you can expect to see in the 2021 Land Rover Discovery.
When it comes to the 2021 Land Rover Discovery interior, we don’t expect to see too many changes. Simply, the current model already features one of the finest cabins in the class. The dashboard, as well as the rest of the cabin, features exceptional styling and materials’ quality, so there is really no bigger need for changes in this aspect. Still, we could see some additions in terms of standard equipment, despite that the current model already comes with a pretty long list of standard equipment. Some of the possible additions are things like Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, and HD Radio, while some reports suggest we might see a new infotainment system as well.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Engines
Other than new hybrid options, the engine lineup should remain the same. In North America, this means two familiar V6 units. Base models will continue with a familiar 3.0-liter Supercharged V6, which is good for about 340 horsepower. There is also an optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which delivers around 255 horsepower. The diesel seems like a great alternative, especially for those who are looking for something with great mpg ratings. This engine returns around 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is far superior compared to the gasoline version, which is good for about 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Both engines are equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Release Date and Price
Given the number of changes that are about to come with the 2021 Land Rover Discovery, we expect that the new version will arrive a little bit earlier than usual, but still within the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes, at least when it comes to base models which go around 52.500 dollars.
