It’s no secret that the Blue Oval company is about to electrify the whole lineup and according to Ford Authority, Ford Expedition and its luxury sibling Lincoln Navigator is next in the line. At this point, we don’t know the details. Still, we are pretty sure that the company will use a proven system, probably the same that can be found under the hood of new Explorer. The new version is about to come as 2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid.
On the other side, the base layout is about to remain the same. The current generation has been around for just two and a half years and more importantly, most experts see is like the best full-size SUV on the market. However, the competition is getting stronger these days, as a completely new Escalade has come, while other rivals are about to get updated in the near future as well. The exact details are still unavailable. However, we presume the new model could arrive already by the end of this year.
2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid Powertrain
Of course, this is the most important aspect of the new model is the powertrain. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we presume the company would use a familiar system. This particularly refers to the 2021 Ford Expedition Plug-In Hybrid version, which is about to come as well. So far, this version has been offered in Europe but should hit the North American market pretty soon as well. The system is based on a 3.0-liter V6 engine and the total output goes around 450 horsepower and pretty impressive 600 pound-feet of torque. Such numbers sound more than appropriate for a large SUV like this.
When it comes to the classic hybrid version, it is based on a reliable, older-generation 3.3-liter V6 engine. We could see a similar system in the new model as well. However, we expect a notable power boost, as 318 horsepower doesn’t seem like a number that can provide satisfying performances. Still, don’t expect some significant increase. The 2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid mpg ratings will be at the focus.
2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, we definitely don’t expect to see any particular change. As we mentioned already, the current generation has been around for just a couple of years. So, it seems too early for any particular change. Therefore, the Ford Expedition Hybrid 2021 will feature the same aluminum and HSS layout, heavily based on the current-generation F-150. The same thing goes for styling. Still, we may see a couple of new details, but will definitely remain essentially the same. We presume that both standard and long-wheelbase version will be in the offer with new hybrid powertrains.
On the inside, the 2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid may affect the total amount of space, as the battery would be placed under the floor. This particularly refers to the last row and cargo area. Still, keep in mind that the current model offers a tremendous amount of legroom in all three rows. Even the third row is also very adult-friendly. When it comes to the cargo area, the standard model is good for about 21 cubic feet behind the third row and almost 105 cubic feet of the overall cargo space. The long-wheelbase model, known as Expedition Max, is even more impressive. It offers around 36 cubic feet behind the third row and more than 121 cubic feet of the overall cargo space.
When it comes to the dashboard design, we don’t expect any difference. This would exclude the instrument cluster and a couple of more controls, which will be adapted to the electrified setup.
This aspect is still a little bit unclear, as we still don’t know whether these models are about to come as separate trim levels, or will they be offered as powertrain options across the range. If the latter happens, we presume that the 2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid wouldn’t be offered in the most basic variants. When it comes to gasoline models, all versions come standard with things like an 8-inch touch screen, satellite radio, voice recognition, four USB ports, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone climate control, auto-dimming mirrors etc. In higher trim levels, you can also get things like an 8-inch digital instrument cluster display, proximity keyless entry, remote start, a panoramic roof, two third-row USB ports, a household-style power outlet, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless device charging, HD Radio, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid Release Date
Although we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, many sources suggest the electrified Expedition will come in the near future for sure. Moreover, there is a chance to see the 2021 Ford Expedition Hybrid release date scheduled already for the end of this year. More details should come in the near future.
