The current generation of Chevy Traverse is one of the most spacious crossovers on the market, thanks to a very long wheelbase. However, it looks like passenger and cargo room are not enough to make some respectable sales numbers. Therefore, the company prepares a refresh, despite that the current generation has been around for just a couple of years. The testing model of the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse has been spotted on the road and the camouflage is pretty heavy.
This indicates massive styling changes, but we also count on a lot of novelties on the inside. The exact details are still unavailable, but we are pretty sure that bigger changes under the hood won’t happen. All in all, the upcoming updates clearly indicate an earlier arrival than usual. It will happen in the second half of the next year, probably in the third quarter.
2021 Chevrolet Traverse Changes
As we’ve just mentioned, this will be a mid-cycle refresh. Therefore, the styling is in the focus. The testing model has been spotted and it wears a lot of camouflage. Naturally, most of it is at the front end, where we count on a completely new face, based on the brand’s latest design language. In practice, this means pretty much the same approach we saw in the new Blaze, so the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse refresh would bring big changes on headlights, grille, bumpers etc. The testing model also has a couple of areas covered at the rear end. This means we might see revisions in areas like taillights, tailgate, rear bumper etc.
Interior changes are expected as well. Despite this crossover offers a huge amount of interior and cargo space, the overall interior quality isn’t that impressive. Moreover, it is far away from today’s standards, from models like Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander etc. Simply, the dashboard doesn’t look very attractive, while most materials are hard plastics. Add to this some pretty strange color schemes and it becomes obvious that this crossover needs big improvements on the inside.
2021 Chevy Traverse Interior Dimensions
This aspect definitely won’t bring any particular change, as we are talking about one of the most spacious crossovers on the market, along with models like Buick Enclave and VW Atlas. The Traverse features the same 120.9-inch wheelbase as the Enclave, so you may count on a similar amount of legroom as well. You can count on about 41 inches of legroom in the first row, while the second one is good for about 38.4. The third row features 33.5 inches of legroom, which is also a pretty respectable number. Moreover, this is one of the rare crossovers that actually can accommodate adult passengers in the third row.
The cargo area is also pretty impressive. There is around 23 cubic feet behind the third row. Once you fold down the second and third row, you may count on tremendous 98.2 cubic feet of cargo space. We are talking about class-leading numbers here.
Of course, novelties are also expected in terms of standard equipment. This also includes tech goodies, though we have to say that the current model already stands pretty good in this aspect. Still, we may expect to see an updated infotainment system, with a standard 8-inch touchscreen.
The current model also comes standard with six USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, while the list of available features includes a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless device charging, an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and satellite radio. We may presume that some of these will become standard after the upcoming update.
2021 Chevrolet Traverse Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, you may count that the good-old 3.6-liter V6 will carry on in the same way. It currently delivers around 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque and comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Such an amount of power ensures pretty good driving dynamics. Also, fuel economy is pretty good. You may count on about 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. These are quite decent ratings for the class.
As you probably know, a turbo-four version has been discontinued recently. However, there is a chance to see a new version of this engine in the offer. The new unit is good for about 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and features a better fuel economy than its predecessor.
2021 Chevrolet Traverse Release Date and Price
Given the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse refresh, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for a little bit earlier date. Most likely, the new model will hit the market sometime in the third quarter of next year. When it comes to the price, the current model starts at around 30.000 dollars and we don’t expect bigger changes in the future.
