Despite that we are still waiting for the official confirmation, the new 2021 BMW X8 is pretty much a certain thing. The latest reports suggest that BMW is about to bring the game to the next level once again, just like it did with the X6 model. This model will come with the same design approach, though it will be even bigger and even more upscale than the popular mid-size coupe crossover.
The new model has been codenamed G09 and the latest reports suggest it will arrive either in late 2020 or in the first quarter of 2021. In any case, it will come with a lot of interesting design solutions, despite that we can already make a pretty clear picture of its look and overall design. Also, we count on a wide engine lineup, which will include some hi-output versions as well.
2021 BMW X8 Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, things are pretty clear with the 2021 BMW X8 Coupe. In terms of mechanics, things will be pretty much identical to the recently-launched X7 model. The two models will ride on the same version of the CLAR platform, which measures around 122.2 inches in wheelbase. Still, don’t expect to see identical overall dimensions. We are pretty sure that the new X8 will feature shorter overhangs, in order to deliver even a sportier look.
Still, the biggest difference will be in terms of body style. If you look at the profile of the two models, there will be an obvious difference in the layout. While the X7 features a typical SUV shape, the new 2021 BMW X8 will come with the same layout as the X6, which means a fastback four-door coupe-like body, with a sloping roof and significantly different profile and rear end.
While the overall styling will be significantly different, there are also parts of the two models that will be completely identical. This particularly refers to the front end, which should come with the same look, which includes a new, more muscular approach to the kidney grille and even bolder appearance. Of course, we also expect to see a couple of new, exclusive details.
2021 BMW X8 Engines
The engine offer should be pretty wide and pretty similar to the X7 model. This means a range of options in the offer, starting from more basic six-cylinder units and ending with hi-output twin-turbo V8 engines.
Base models should come with a well-known 3.0-liter turbo inline-six engine, which is good for about 335 horsepower. Of course, the 4.4-liter V8 should come in two or more versions when it comes to output. Standard versions of the engine are good for about 456 horsepower, while a more powerful version is good for about 523 horsepower. Finally, we expect to see the M version, probably with near 600 horsepower.
Of course, European versions should be available with diesel units as well. Eventually, we could see some form of electrification as well. More details about the powertrain should come soon.
2021 BMW X8 Interior
Some of the things about the 2021 BMW X8 seems pretty tricky, while others seem a little bit intriguing. On one side, we are pretty sure that the dashboard will look identical to the one that can be found in the odd-numbered counterpart. This means a hi-end layout with loads of hi-quality materials and a typical BMW aesthetics. Of course, count on a digital instrument cluster, as well as on a larger touchscreen on the center stack.
Will BMW X8 Feature Third Row?
On the other side, the tricky question about the 2021 BMW X8 is the number of seats. On one side, there is no doubt that this model will feature a smaller cabin compared to the X7 model. A sloping roof and shorter rear overhang will definitely make this crossover tighter but many wonder if there will be enough space to put the third row.
It seems pretty certain that base models will come with two rows of seats. On the other side, there are all kinds of opposite reports when it comes to the optional third row. In our opinion, the third row should be offered. If this doesn’t happen, there is really no point in making such a vehicle, as there is already the large-enough X6 model. We expect to hear something from the officials on this matter in the near future.
According to the latest reports, the 2021 BMW X8 release date will be scheduled either for the late 2020 or for the first quarter of the next year.
If you wonder how much would the 2021 BMW X8 cost, it’s hard to talks about more precise numbers at the moment. Still, we presume that base models probably won’t go under 80.000 dollars.
