Despite being one of the major luxury carmakers in the world, the company from Ingolstadt still has a couple of gaps in the lineup. This particularly refers to the SUV segment, where we are still waiting for a full-size crossover from the four-ring company. According to the latest reports, it looks like this crossover is finally under development. Reportedly, the new model will arrive by the end of the year, as the 2021 Audi Q9.
At this point this model is still just a rumor, despite many sources suggest this is a certain thing. At this point, we don’t know the exact details, but we can predict some of the key features of the 2021 Audi Q9. Of course, this particularly refers to the size, which is expected to be on par with full-size models from rival companies. Also, we count on the implementation of the brand’s latest design language, presented with the new Q8, as well as on a full load of advanced tech goodies.
2021 Audi Q9 Platform and Size
Naturally, the first thing we should consider is the platform. Things are pretty clear and the 2021 Audi Q9 will certainly ride on VW’s well-known, modular MLB platform, which already underprints pretty much everything from the VW Group when it comes to hi-end crossovers, including Bentley BEntayga, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne etc. Still, be sure that the platform will be significantly stretched for this occasion. All the aforementioned models are mid-size crossover, which measures slightly under 118 inches in wheelbase. We presume that the 2021 Audi Q9 will gain at least 5 more inches in wheelbase, in order to feature similar size as rivals. For comparison, the BMW X7 is good for about 122.2 inches, while the Mercedes-Benz GLS features 123.4 inches between the axles.
2021 Audi Q9 Exterior Design
When ti comes to the exterior design, things look quite confusing if you look at most 2021 Audi Q9 rumors. Initially, pretty much all reports were suggesting a coupe-like body style but the latest reports suggest a more common, typical SUV shape. This makes perfect sense if we consider the company’s naming policy, where the odd-numbered models are typical crossover while sloping roofs are reserved for even numbers.
While the overall body is expected to feature a typical SUV layout, we presume that the front face will be adapted to the brand’s latest design language. In practice, this means a quite similar face to the recently introduced Q8. Despite we are talking about a coupe crossover, the Q8 is far more up-to-date compared to the outdated-looking Q7, which has been around for full five years. Of course, the 2021 Audi Q9 should also come with loads of distinctive, exclusive details, which seems natural, considering that we are talking about the next flagship model of the crossover lineup.
The recent Audi models are characterized by impressive interior quality, so expectations from the 2021 Audi Q9 are pretty huge. As we are talking about a flagship model, we expect that the new dashboard will look even more impressive compared to the Q8 model. Of course, things like the digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen and tons of new tech goodies are something that’s definitely is going to happen.
Of course, another important aspect of the new model is the interior space, It is too early to talk about the exact numbers. On the other side, we may expect to see numbers that are typical for the class. Therefore, we may expect around 40+ inches of legroom in the first and second row, while the third one should be decent as well, with way more than 30 inches of legroom. A spacious cargo area is another thing we expect to see from the new model.
2021 Audi Q9 Engines
When it comes to the engine lineup, we presume that base models will come with a familiar 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which delivers around 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. There is also a big chance to see the RS-badged version, which would come with a 4.0-liter V8 unit that delivers 592 horsepower. Both engines would come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
In Europe and other parts of the world, we also count on a diesel version. We could see a couple of versions of the well-known 3.0-liter V6 TDI, while the SQ8 version with V8 diesel is also in conversation. More details about this version should come soon.
2021 Audi Q9 Release Date and Price
Despite that we are still waiting for the official confirmation, it looks like the 2021 Audi Q9 is definitely coming by the end of the year. At this point, it is hard to predict more precise numbers when it comes to the price, but some rough estimation would go around 75.000 dollars for the base model.
