Tiguan is one of the rare compact crossovers that offer the third row of seats. In the US, the vehicle is available with two and three rows. Other markets will offer 7-seater SUV as 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. It is a long wheel-base version with more room in the rear row.
The new Tiguan arrived in 2016. Soon after that, the German company announced the new seven-seat version. For the US market, it will be built in Mexico. In Australia and a few other markets, this one is available as Allspace model. These two are basically the same vehicle, with 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace offering an LWB setup.
Again, depending on the market, we will see different kinds of engines. VW is not bringing diesel units to the US anymore. However, across the sea, the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is using a 2.0 TDI drivetrain, while the US edition is coming with a gasoline unit of the same displacement.
Further options are also different. Top of the class model for the Tiguan is SEL Premium R-Line. The Allspace model in the UK offers SEL and R-Line as separate trims, while the Australian buyers have two packages of equipment – Comfortline and Highline.
2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Specs
Under the hood of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. This drivetrain can be tuned to produce 150 or 190 horsepower. Top of the line unit is coming with a bi-turbo system and a total output of 240 horsepower. The engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox that sends power to front wheels. All-wheel drive, popular 4Motion is optional.
The quickest model is a bi-turbo, with a max speed of 142 mph and acceleration to 60 mph in less than 6.5 seconds. A mid-range setup returns 400 Nm, a top speed of 130 mph, and 0-60 sprint takes 8.5 seconds. The major downside of all mentioned configurations is a lag while accelerating.
Besides diesel, there are petrol engines available for the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. A 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower is the entry-level model. In some markets, you will find a 2.0-liter powertrain that boosts the outputs to 180 horsepower. In the USA, this is the only drivetrain for the VW Tiguan, both two- and three-row model.
2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Versions
The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is usually available in three trim levels. Most markets will offer Comfortline and Highline. 18-inches wheels are standard. VW offers extra safety features right from the base model, including lane departure warning, emergency braking, and a park assist. The Highline model will increase the wheel size, add more speakers for the audio system, satellite navigation, and few other features.
In the UK, there are three different models than for the rest of the world. Definitely, top of the class version is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line. Panoramic moonroof and an 8-inch touchscreen display are standard. Sports front buckets and 20-inch wheels are further upgrades.
The German edition also offers an all-terrain trim. Special wheels and tires, as well as body parts, will make off-road adventures more fun. If you want to try something new, then there is IQ Drive model with unique upgrades and driver-aid technologies.
All versions of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace are capable to take seven passengers. Well, the rear row is not so generous with space, so we recommend it for driving children. However, the access is easier thanks to the sliding middle row.
Behind the rear seats, Tiguan Allspace is offering 230 liters of boot space. We must have in mind this is a slightly larger version of the compact crossover, and that is a fair offer. By folding rear seats, the cargo space capacity jumps to 700 liters.
The US version with three rows of seats comes with 12 cubic feet behind the third row, and 33 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Maximum cargo space for the standard Tiguan is 65 cu.ft. Towing capacity for petrol engines is 1,500 pounds. Diesel units can haul 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs).
2020 VW Tiguan Allspace Price
The three-row model is more expensive than the standard Tiguan. Also, VW is now producing vehicles that are somewhere between the standard and premium segment. The base version of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will cost around 30,000 pounds or 33,000 € in continental Europe. Top of the class Highline trim will cost nearly 40,000 euro, while the UK buyers can purchase R-Line for 36,000 pounds.
In the US, a two-row version starts at $25,000. Fully loaded, it also reaches $40k. Three-row models are available with SEL trim and cost $32,000.
The main rival to the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be Hyundai Santa Fe and its XL seven-seat edition. For a more comfortable ride, you should consider the larger VW Touareg. Also, Ford is planning to launch the new 7-seater version of the Escape/Kuga crossover SUV to join the all-new Explorer.
