It is not as big as Armada, but the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder is more popular. Well, it is expected that the mid-size SUV achieves better sales. However, the Pathfinder is losing the pace with the competition and the company needs to do the redesign as soon as possible. The latest facelift dates from 2017, but it didn’t bring the results Nissan wanted. Rivals launched new versions of their SUVs and last year the sales of Pathfinder dropped by nearly 20 percent.
So, the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will face a big update to make a strong impression. We believe the new generation is on the way. Spy photos are not available yet, but the changes will bring both interior and exterior redesign. New colors and a more aggressive stance are on the way.
Under the bonnet, buyers will find the same engine as before. But now, there is reinforcement. The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid will be the new 7-seater SUV in the mid-size class. This spaces the offer for the Japanese carmaker, which will need to make something spectacular to keep the pace the competition sets up.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign Details and Spy Photos
Big updates will occur for the 2020 Pathfinder. The SUV remains the 7-seater. Well, it is already one of the largest models in the segment with an overall length of 198 inches (114-inch wheelbase). The new edition will gain an extra inch or two. This will create more room for interior changes. Definitely, the SUV is coming with a spacious cabin that can fit seven occupants.
Most of the details are still unavailable. There are no spy photos to confirm what is going on with the mid-size SUV. However, the company is silently developing the new model that will get a hybrid drivetrain and upper levels of autonomous drive. ProPilot is heading to the new generation, and the Level 4 of self-driving features could be available shortly after the Highlander hits the market.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Specs
The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will get the power from a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This proven drivetrain is capable to deliver 285 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a CVT transmission and sends power to 2WD or 4WD system. The unit is very reliable and provides excellent performance both on and off the road. The towing capacity of the new Pathfinder stays at 5,000 pounds. Thanks to the new materials in its body, the SUV will offer better mileage. Combined with 4WD it is 23-24 mpg, while the front-wheel drive system returns nearly 25 mpg average.
The more important question is regarding the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid. Toyota Highlander was the only model in the mid-size segment that offered both three rows of seats and a hybrid drivetrain. Now, there is also the Ford Explorer. So, we can expect Honda, GM, and of course Nissan to develop their own units.
The redesign comes at the right moment. Besides the cosmetic changes, the arrival of the new unit will be a real refresh. Well, the SUV had a hybrid version once before. When the Pathfinder entered the new generation, it brought a combination of a 2.5-liter four-pot engine and an electric motor. However, this configuration was available only for a limited time. Slow sales discontinued this vehicle. Now, the company is ready to try again, but with the new setup based on the larger V6 engine.
Rock Creek Edition and Pro-4X
The model for the 2019 season brought a single major update. The company launched the Rock Creek Edition. Besides the standard features, this model upgrades the ride with a special palette of colors. However, a more rugged exterior design will draw your attention. Also, the interior comes with significant upgrades and improved comfort. The package is the most suitable for an off-road drive, although we expected to see the Pro-4X version.
Whatsoever, these two share accessories. So, we will see the special tuning of the suspension system and the all-wheel drive as standard. The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is also a seven-seater with a lot of space inside the cockpit. Buyers will get 16 cubic feet of cargo space, that increases to 47.5 with the third row folded down. Behind the front buckets, there is 80 cubic-feet of cargo room.
When Will the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Be Available?
With most of the rivals already presented for the next season, we could see the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder any moment. The redesign is not going to affect the price too much. The base models will still be around $32,500 with the S trim. SL and SV are the mid-range offer, while buyers are getting the most of the Platinum version.
The Rock Creek is going to cost over $40,000 this time. Heavily-loaded Platinum version, with AWD, will come with the price over $50k. If Nissan hybridizes the Pathfinder, expect this engine in combination with all but base trim levels.
