2020 Lexus GX 460 Will Have More Space Inside After the Redesign

Lexus removed the third row for one season from its largest SUV – LX. Well, they still had a GX lineup that is ready to accommodate seven persons. Now, after the redesign the new model is going through, we will get the new model with more space. The 2020 Lexus GX 460 is already spotted testing, but the company is not confirming it yet. It’s been ten years since the current generation is on the market. It is about the time to see updates.

The redesign of the 2020 Lexus GX 460 will bring a total interior overhaul. Also, the 7-seat SUV will update the exterior look and gas mileage thanks to the possible mechanical upgrades. Well, the heart of the big rig is a 4.6 V8 unit. But, the biggest upgrade should be the hybrid unit. We are not sure yet of the GX is getting such setup in 2020 or 2021.

2020 Lexus GX 460 Release Date, Price

The seven-seat SUV is suffering big changes. Before it shows up in dealerships, Lexus will have to make everything perfect. Leather upholstery, a new infotainment system, Android Auto, and many other things have to fit the big SUV. So, Toyota, the parent company, and Lexus are not going to rush. But, the redesigned 2020 Lexus GX 460 will show up by the end of the year, and the sales will start immediately. As a vehicle for the US market, we will see its debut at some big auto show there.

The MSRP is going to show the effects of changes. With an update, the price goes up. Currently, the GX costs $53,000. Premium model adds around three grands, while the top of the line version is Luxury. It will cost more than $65,000. If the hybrid engine appears, then all the prices are going up by $2,000-$3,000, depending on configurations.

Redesign Status

We don’t know too many details about the upcoming 2020 Lexus GX 460. Well, one thing is certain – a complete overhaul will refresh this model. All other Lexus SUVs offer a modern and breathtaking look. The GX is still an old-school vehicle. Now, this nameplate goes through an update to present the new look. The same will happen with its sibling for all other markets – Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. We expect the complete overhaul of the front fascia. However, the GX is not getting as aggressive grille as LX or RX. Still, the shape is modern, and the SUV will come with brand-new headlights and bumper. On the side, there are 18-inch wheels with a fresh design. The rear end will also bring a new look.

Interior

Leather seats of the 2020 Lexus GX 460 will be standard. On the other hand, heating for front row is optional. The company will add a new sunroof, while navigation is possible to get through an extra package. The standard audio system will come with nine speakers. Also, standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, voice commands, satellite radio, and smart key functions. Unfortunately, Lexus is not adding adaptive cruise control to the GX 460 in 2020. All versions will come with the standard 7-seat layout. Buyers will choose between base, Premium, and Luxury models.

2020 Lexus GX 460 Specs

Unter the bonnet of this 7-Seat SUV is a powerful and reliable V8 engine. The same 4.6-liter drivetrain is the power source for the next 2020 Lexus GX 460. With it, the SUV can count on 300 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed gearbox is currently a router for this energy, but we are sure the Lexus will upgrade it to the eight-speed transmission we can find in the rest of the Lexus SUV lineup.

Smoother distribution and better fuel economy are major advantages of this replacement. Still, the GX 460 is big and heavy, so 17 mpg combined is best we can get from it. The vehicle is going to use a full-time AWD as the only option. The gas mileage is a major downside of the big SUV and its rivals can offer much better fuel economy. For example, Audi Q7 is slightly smaller but returns 22 mpg average with 330 hp-rated engine.

Hybrid

The new 2020 Lexus GX 460 is likely to present the hybrid system as the optional drivetrain to the only petrol unit. RX is offering this system with its 450h version. Well, total horsepower rating is better than for the GX. A 3.5-liter V6 engine in pair with an electric battery creates 310 hp. So, the same system could be the power source for the new GX hybrid. But, other capabilities will suffer since the larger model is also a lot heavier. We can’t count on the great fuel economy we are getting from the RX 450h.
