The 2020 Ford Explorer will represent the new generation of the mid-size SUV. The Legendary model comes with significant changes that will keep old fans and draw new buyers. As one of the best-selling and the most popular models on the market, Explorer has to improve its offer every time it steps out with a new version. The 2020 MY is not going to disappoint. The hybrid engine is the highlight. However, the gas mileage of the standard version is better, and that could be the decisive fact.
Four-cylinder and V6 engines are options for the 2020 Ford Explorer. The major change in this segment is an all-new platform for rear-wheel drive. Also, the new Explorer is going to be available with AWD configuration. Standard features are stunning, but the SUV will also offer some of the most advanced technologies through optional packages and options.
2020 Ford Explorer 7-seat Interior
The 2020 Ford Explorer will be a true 7-seat SUV. The vehicle is not offering the captain’s chairs for the middle row. However, there is plenty of options for every trim level available. Access to the third bench is easy thanks to the sliding middle row. With all seats up, there are only 18 cubic feet of cargo space. If you turn this 7-seat SUV into 5-seater, then cargo capacity jumps to 48 cubic feet. If you need to tow a lot, then max cargo volume is 88 cubic feet behind the first row of seats. The 2020 Ford Explorer will be able to tow up to 5,600 pounds. The last edition did 5,000 lbs with the same engine.
Drivetrains and Specs
The base configuration of the 2020 Ford Explorer will include a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Turbocharged, it creates 300 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed transmission box is new, but we are sure it will work smoothly with both turbo-four and V6 engines. The other drivetrain brings a power boost to 365 hp and 380 lb-ft. Towing capacity raises to 5,600 pounds. By default, the power travels to rear wheels. The new platform allowed the SUV to tow 600 pounds more. Also, it will boost Explorer’s off-road capabilities.
Hybrid and Mileage
The Blue Oval company also announced the arrival of the 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid. However, it will come after the base model. The petrol-electric combination will get most of the energy from a 3.3-l V6 engine. Thanks to the battery, the SUV will save a lot of fuel, and you will need a refill after 500 miles. A 10-speed transmission and an RWD are standard for this version as well. The position of an electric motor will affect overall comfort, especially for passengers in the middle row. Under this bench is a battery that improves gas mileage. The hybrid MPG rating is not available yet.
The new generation of the 2020 Ford Explorer brings new dimensions. The SUV is 199 inches long, with a 119-inch wheelbase. The vehicle is 79 inches wide and 70-inch high. Inside, legroom for the first row is generous with 43 inches. The second row offers 39, and third 32 inches.

2020 Ford Explorer ST Model
Probably the more exciting version than the new hybrid will be 2020 Ford Explorer ST. The SUV is going to use a more powerful 3.0-liter V6 engine. 350 hp will be a good reason to purchase this model. If not, there are also some sporty styling updates that include 21-inch aluminum wheels. Unique options are waiting inside the cabin, with contrast stitching and more standard features than for other models. Well, Platinum trim offers more premium materials, so its price is higher. The ST version, on the other hand, comes with off-road driving upgrades, such as hill descent control, and terrain management system. Intelligent AWD will send power to wheels that need the most energy. This will get you out of a tough situation. The system also saves fuel.
