Although a mid-size SUV, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse can accommodate eight persons. The biggest change on the new model is an engine replacement – a 3.6-l V6 instead of a 2.0 turbo-four. The rest of the SUV is unchanged and we believe the big redesign is on the way for the 2021 model. Well, there is still time for some updates.
For example, the SUV could get either a diesel or hybrid model. Meanwhile, seating capacity is for eight persons. The High Country version comes with captain’s chairs and drops one seating spot. Premier is also attractive trim, and the GM could deliver an off-road model for the mid-size three-row SUV.
Hybrid is definitely something the GM needs to set as a priority, especially now with the new Ford Explorer out. The Blue Oval is not making the only rival for the Traverse, which is going to pay more attention to Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and the new Jeep Grand Cherokee with third-row.
Updates For 2020 Season
There are few key changes for the 2020 Chevy Traverse. We already mentioned that a V6 engine replaces the turbo-four model. Besides that, Chevrolet is revisiting the infotainment system and upgrades it. The new navigation is more precise. The base model is unchanged, while there are more features available at higher trim levels. High Country will offer the most accessories, while the Premier also gets some novelties.
2020 Chevrolet Traverse Configurations
General Motors is making the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse one of the most versatile vehicles in its family. The SUV is offering a total of seven trim levels. The base one is L and it brings the base features most Chevy models are using. The LS will tint windows and install larger 18-inch wheels. A nine-speed transmission is standard for this package, as well as the traction selection.
The LT trim allows you to choose between cloth and leather interior. Both versions are adding 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar control. Captain’s chairs are standard in the middle row, but you can still purchase the version with eight seats. Fog lamps and roof rails will unveil the LT models.
The RS version is the one that used a four-cylinder drivetrain. Now, this performance-oriented model is getting power from the same V6 unit like the rest of the lineup. It also upgrades both exterior and interior with unique parts.
High Country and Premier Accessories
Two top trims for the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse are bringing the most features. Premier is slightly more expensive than the RS and it adds perforated leather-appointed seating. Ventilating and heating are standard for the driver’s bucket. Some advanced features are also there, such as wireless charging.
There are more highlights on the 2020 Chevy Traverse High Country. Unique 20-inch wheels, IntelliBeam automatic assist, and advanced Adaptive Cruise Control are some of them. This package also brings extra trailering features. You will recognize the High Country thanks to its 20-inch aluminum- polished wheels.
Seating Capacity and Cargo Volume
The standard seating capacity for the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse is eight. However, the bench in the middle row is replaced by captain’s chairs at some trim levels. That makes the Traverse a 7-seater SUV. However, the company offers the switch to the standard configuration and the 8-seat layout.
The SUV is pretty spacious. It comes with 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. With the second row folded, the volume raises to 58 cu.ft. and up to 98 cubic feet behind the front seats.
2020 Chevrolet Traverse Towing Capacity and MPG Rating
The V6 engine is pretty capable. It delivers 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, which is good for 5,000 pounds. However, the maximum towing capacity requires the trailering package. Meanwhile, the new Traverse will stay on the average fuel consumption, at least until it presents the hybrid drivetrain. The SUV returns 22 mpg combined.
Hybrid and Diesel Drivetrains
With only one drivetrain, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse has no chance on the market. So, we strongly believe that SUV is getting either hybrid or diesel variant to join the lineup. For the second one, the company already has a unit. It is a Duramax turbodiesel V6 which produces 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. However, GM will try to avoid this one and leave it available only for the Silverado truck.
The more likely option is to hybridize the existing V6 unit. In this case, buyers would get a more fuel-friendly drivetrain. A plug-in hybrid would be the big thing, but we don’t have too many precise info about it. At this point, only a few leaking sources are confirming the company is working on the hybrid engine for its larger SUVs.
2020 Chevrolet Traverse Prices
The base price for the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse remains the same. The SUV will cost $31,000 for the base L model, and up to $52,000 for the Cross Country. Loaded with optional features and packages, the price will hit $60k. HERE you can build your own 2020 Chevy Traverse.
