General Motors has released updates for the new 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe. The entire industry expected to hear the confirmation of the new generation, but it is not going to happen. At least not next year. Well, Chevrolet’s boss confirmed the new Tahoe for 2021. While we are waiting for another year, the model for 2020 brings some changes to the eight-seat SUV. These are not big updates since the drivetrain lineup remains the same. Cosmetic modifications and reshuffle of additional packages will keep fans’ attention until the next-gen SUV arrives.
All the changes we expected for 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe are delayed for the following season. That includes a redesign and the new independent rear suspension. Well, the upcoming SUV is still attractive with small updates in and out. A pair of V8 engines will offer choice to buyers that don’t want to wait for the next update. Tahoe and its extended sibling Chevrolet Suburban are going to compete with likes of Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Nissan Armada.
The list of modifications on the new 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe is not too long. The company is giving some clues about the upcoming model. However, most equipment and technology will arrive with the next generation. Until then, we will see Tahoe SUV as an eight-seater. Silver accents are added to 22-inch wheels with Gloss Black and Bright machined aluminum design. Also, the GM removes the Pepperdust Metallic paint from the offer for the 2020 season. Besides this color, two optional packages are not going to be available. All-Season suite for LS model and Signature Package for LT version are in history books now. The same changes will affect the larger Chevy Suburban.
2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Release Date
The 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe could be launched every day from now on. We believe the company will do it by the end of the summer. With small changes, the production of the new model is not going to last for too long, since the interest will fall and buyers will be waiting for the new generation. That also means the prices will stay put. The base model with a 5.3-liter V8 engine will still be available under $50,000. The mid-range offer includes upgrades that will cost you between 50k-60k. Top of the class model is Premier, with a price tag of $65,000. The next 2021 Tahoe will also feature High Country model, according to spy photos. You can also purchase the SUV with a five-seat layout and save around $4,000.
Engines and Specs
The base SUV will get the power from a 5.3-liter V8 engine. It can produce 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque for towing capacity of 6,600 pounds. The drivetrain is not so fuel-friendly consuming 15/22 mpg. Two-wheel drive is standard and 4WD optional. If you opt for the other choice, gas consumption is even higher. It doesn’t drop too much if you pick a more powerful engine. A 6.2-liter will return 420 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque. Towing capacity jumps to 8,600 pounds, while gas mileage is making 14/23 mpg (2WD) and 14/22 mpg (4WD). The RST edition pairs a 6.2-l engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The other unit uses either 6- or 8-pace gearbox. The Active Fuel Management system is standard and it helps the SUV achieve a better fuel economy by shutting down four cylinders in light road conditions.
No Diesel for 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe
The 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Diesel is another expected thing that won’t happen. We will have to wait for the next update to see how the three-row SUV works with diesel drivetrain, which is already available for the Silverado 1500 truck. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 unit is capable to produce 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. This is more power than new Ford’ PowerStroke and Ram’s EcoDiesel can do. Towing capacity and fuel economy of both Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs will take benefits of such drivetrain. But, as for all other upgrades, we will have to wait for the 2021 season and the fifth generation.
Options and Equipment
With unchanged 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, we already know what the new season is bringing. Basically, this is an eight-seat SUV. You can purchase a 7-seater version with captain’s chairs in the middle row. Trim levels available for the upcoming model are LS, LT, and Premier. RST package is available with the last model. Premier Plus is the most expensive upgrade that will make full-size SUV cost nearly $80,000. Independent Rear Suspension remains an upgrade for the new generation. Coil-over-shock front and multi-link rear suspension are there again for another year.
An 8-inch display is standard with Chevrolet Infotainment bringing the rear camera. Three-zone automatic climate is available from the base LS trim. LT adds leather seats, a power liftgate, Bose audio, heated front seats, and various safety upgrades. Besides the 6.2 engine, the Premier model is charging numerous premium features and options. Fully-loaded, it can cost more than $80k.
