Info is leaking, spy photos are showing new models, but GM is not confirming its full-size fleet for the next season. We already have confirmations for some changes. The new 2020 Chevrolet Suburban will have independent rear suspension, for example. There are also spy images showing the new shape of the upcoming SUV. We expected the premiere a little bit earlier, but it is not going to happen until the last quarter of 2019. Also, there are some indications that the 2020 year model will be unchanged, with all updates coming with the new generation of Chevy Suburban full-size SUV in 2021.
The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban will belong to the eight-seat SUV family. However, its seating capacity could drop to seven, or increase to nine in upper trim levels. With the wheelbase of 130 inches, there will still be enough cargo space. The new platform will be available for the next-gen SUVs, including Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. We will see how this is affecting the dimensions of the upcoming SUV.
Release Date News
The latest stories are saying the new Suburban is delayed. That means the new generation is due to 2021. Well, this has a sense with the perfect premiere spot being moved for the next summer. In 2020, Detroit Auto Show, the biggest automotive spectacle on earth, is becoming even greater. And it will be organized in June. That will leave a lot of possibility to companies, including the show off of their products and their capabilities outside. The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban is coming later this year, and then we will know if it is bringing things we saw on spy photos, or these are really part of the new generation coming in 2021.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban Concept and Diesel
There are no many reliable sources that will confirm details about the new platform. But, the new generation and the independent rear suspension require these changes. Whatsoever, the company is not going to unveil this until some special event. Spy photos are showing the clear intention of moving the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban to the IRS. Its close siblings, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon also had similar parts visible under the body of test mules. One of the main advantages of the IRS is better off-roading.
To boost it even further, the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban Diesel is a good upgrade. Chevy Silverado truck is getting a 3.0-l turbodiesel V6. The same unit will fit into the new full-size SUV. It will create 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, by consuming less fuel than the huge V8 engines the eight-seat SUV is using.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban HD Could Become Available at Dealerships
Rumors say the new SUV will be available at the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban HD as well. It is not the first time the GM is delivering series 3 vehicle with this kind of chassis. However, previously Suburban HD was available only for commercial use. Now, we will be able to purchase this truck-based SUV. One of the reasons for this move is the potential return of Ford Excursion, the largest SUV ever built. This one was also based on the heavy-duty F-250 truck.
Which Suburban You Will Like the Most?
The new Chevy Suburban will be pretty versatile SUV. There are versions with 7,8, and 9 seats inside. The base trim is the LS. LT is the mid-range model, and the fully-packed 2020 Chevrolet Suburban Premier is the most expensive one with a price tag of nearly $70,000. You can upgrade this version with the RST package that includes a 6.2-liter V8 engine. With it, the SUV gains 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
We expect to see the off-road oriented 2020 Chevrolet Suburban Z71 model as well. Actually, this vehicle would carry over the package available for the Silverado 1500 truck. New shocks and suspensions, as well as the all-terrain tires, will boost performance in tough conditions. The SVE department is also creating an 800+ and 1,000+ hp versions of the Chevy Suburban. A custom built 6.8-liter engine was not part of the standard offer, but the aftermarket upgrade. Beware if you are after this one since you will lose the warranty.
