Photographers caught the new Escalade a few times in the last few months. While we all expected an official confirmation about the 2020 Cadillac Escalade redesign, the all-new model will arrive a year later. So, the upcoming SUV is not bringing any major update. The independent rear suspension and all other stuff we were sure about this one will be available with the next-gen Escalade. Well, there is no sense to launch big things a year before the huge reconstruction.
So, with an unchanged model for the next season, we know what to expect from this seven-seat SUV. It is full of luxury, compared to its non-premium siblings from Chevy’s lineup, Suburban, and Tahoe. However, all three models are going in the same direction. But, the most luxurious version will have to wait for the 2021 season for the new generation.
Under the hood of the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will be the same engine. Even when the popular 7-seat SUV enters the new generation, a 6.2 V8 engine will be the main source of power. It is the largest petrol engine GM is offering. With it, the new Escalade will produce 420 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque. The new 10-speed automatic transmission works smoothly in combination with a V8 engine and sends energy to rear axle. Of course, an all-wheel drive is also an option for this luxury 7-seat SUV.
Fuel economy is definitely not something that will make you buy this vehicle. In urban areas, Escalade can return only 14 mpg. On the open road, the situation is somehow better. The rear-wheel drive consumes 23 mpg, while AWD comes 2 mpg short. On the other hand, if you need to tow a lot, the SUV is a perfect choice. The towing capacity of the Escalade with the 6.2-liter engine is 8,300 pounds.
2020 Cadillac Escalade Features and Trim Levels
Cadillac Escalade is on the market since 1996. It is a long run and the SUV is one of the favorite US models. It never stops to surprise its fans and the entire automotive industry. Although it belongs to the premium segment and costs too much, Escalade is pretty versatile and offers a lot of options to its buyers. The base trim level comes with 20-inch wheels and a hands-free liftgate. Inside, there is a lot of advanced infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, drivers will find park assist as a very useful feature, and the instrument cluster’s diagonal is 12 inches. Leather seats and steering wheel are improving comfort to highest levels.
But, what’s left for higher trim levels? The Luxury model shows 22-inch wheels. Theft package will protect your SUV, and drivers will find more assist features, such as lane departure warning, or blind-spot alert. Premium Luxury adds the Driver assist package and rear-seat entertaining system. Top of the class is the 2020 Cadillac Escalade Platinum model. Special leather, unique stitches, and a DVD system are interior upgrades, while outside the 7-seat SUV is getting a special set of wheels and chrome grille.
Seating Capacity and Dimensions
The new 2020 Escalade will be a seven-seat SUV by default. The second row comes with captain’s chairs, but this could be turned into a bench and add another seating spot. So, Escalade is also an 8-seat SUV in some versions. Inside the cabin, there are 15 cubic feet of cargo space. If you fold the second and third row, the storage area increases to 94 cubic feet. That is not all, since the version with a longer wheelbase, 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV offers 121 cubic feet total and 39 cubic feet behind the third row. This model is 22 inches longer than the base one.
When Will Cadillac Escalade EXT Truck Come Back?
Besides the ESV – Escalade with a longer body and wheelbase, there is another model with the same name. Cadillac Escalade EXT is a premium pickup truck, which could come back to the market. The company discontinued it in 2013, but rumors about its return are now very loud. Still, the premium pickup market is not big enough, especially with the growth of the SUV segment. Escalade can tow 8,300 pounds, and it will offer more safety features and space for passengers than a truck. But still, we are keeping the tabs open for a possible return.
2020 Cadillac Escalade Release Date and Prices
Without big cosmetic updates and announced redesign, the price of the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will remain the same as for the previous edition. That means the base models will cost $77,000. The most luxurious version, Platinum, adds $20k of value. The next edition will probably come with a six-digit price tag.
What’s Next for the Escalade 7-Seat SUV?
The redesign, finally, takes place for the 2021 model year. Speculations show some true facts, but only missed a year of release. Well, the premium 7-seat SUV needs to think beyond this. Its main rival, Lincoln Navigator will get a diesel and hybrid engines soon. So, we expect from General Motors to exploit its new Duramax turbodiesel drivetrain and install it to other big vehicles, including full-size SUVs.
